covid-19 relief

Updated 28/08/2020

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, full lockdown and very little to no support from the government, the people of Nepal are suffering!  On top of COVID-19, the monsoon hit hard this season and caused massive landslides, flooding, loss of animals, loss of crops and loss of stored supplies.

For the One, working together with local government officials, identified some of the worst affected villages.  We were able to pull together resources and provide some desperately needed food to some very needy families, especially in the villages in West and far West Nepal.

Walking back to their villages after receiving food supplies

Some of the families receiving the food had to walk between 1 and 4 hours to reach the location where the supplies were being handed out.  The vehicles carrying the supplies drove as far as the roads could take them.  Some of these villages are high up in the mountains and can only be reached by foot.  As the photo shows, it is mountainous terrain, the people had to walk down and then back up carrying the food they were given.

For the One was able to provide relief to 88 families from 4 separate districts within Nepal, which equals 491 individual people.  These families now have enough food for 1 month.

The families receiving the food are mostly labourers and daily wage earners (carrying stones, cutting stones and carrying heavy items for others) who were very heavily impacted by the 4 month COVID-19 lockdown.

To say these families were thankful is an understatement!  They were flabbergasted that they received help from an organisation that had never met them.

One of the comments made was  “In this rural area, you provided this relief items and we hope you and your work be blessed.  We are labour workers and due to covid lockdown, we had no income, and all our food in home was running out, but you helped us in this time and we are very thankful to you.”

We were able to help 491 people, but Nepal has a population of 29 million.

Our next plan is to help the people in Caule Village in Chitwan, but we need your help.  75 families live in Caule which equals approximately 450 people.  It will cost $3,000 to provide 1 month of food for all 75 households – that is $40 per family for 1 month of food.  If you can help us, help the people of Nepal in this time of desperate need, please donate.  All donations are tax deductible!
