Our girls, covid-19 & an operation
updated 28/08/20
Unfortunately since the COVID-19 lockdown, some of our girls have retreated within themselves, allowing their thoughts to go back to the trauma which caused them to come and live in our Home, they’re starting to hurt each other and themselves.
Within the walls of our Home, they are relatively safe from COVID-19, but not from the demons which so regularly enter their thoughts, which come to haunt them, especially now, while life as they were getting used to and had learnt to love and accept as their normal has been ripped away from them.
The streets are deserted, the schools have no students or teachers present, the shops are empty.
They’re not allowed to go to school, they’re not allowed to leave our Home for any reason (except medical emergencies). They are locked in our Home and feeling the pressures of spending 24 hours a day within 4 walls. Our house mums are doing a great job, creating plenty of spaces where the girls can partake in lots of activities, but nothing replaces the freedoms that we all took for granted before COVID-19.
Then on top of all this, one of our girls who I will call Priyanka (name changed for confidentiality) has an infection in her thigh bone as a result from the trauma which she suffered before she moved in to our Home.
Priyanka has had several operations to try and conquer this infection. She’s been in and out of hospital numerous times and taken countless courses of antibiotics. The Dr’s are working together with Dr’s from other hospitals. 2nd and 3rd opinions have been obtained and a 4th was gratefully received from a very generous Dr in New Zealand.

It was decided that Priyanka would need another operation, this time bigger than any other operations she’s had. Part of her bone will be removed and replaced with a metal rod. Major surgery!
This is a chronic infection and the Dr’s have warned us that the infection can come back and further surgeries might be required in the future. She will need to take antibiotics for 6 weeks afterwards and full recovery is expected to take 12 months. As you can imagine, Priyanka is not coping well, she is now suffering from depression and becoming very withdrawn. The operation was scheduled to take place last week Thursday, but unfortunately the government decided to implement another full lockdown on the Wednesday before, so the operation is postponed until lockdown restrictions are eased or the hospital is given permission to go ahead.
For the One is responsible for the cost of the operation for Priyanka and we ask if you can help in any way towards paying for Priyanka’s operation that you please donate on the below link. Any amount whether big or small is greatly appreciated.
